Awards Structure


Please read below for a breakdown of all awards that are presented to winners in The Great Race 5K and 10K events.


OVERALL AWARDS
The Great Race awards the following places at the post-race award ceremony on stage following the 10K:
5K
1st Overall Male & Female
2nd Overall Male & Female
3rd Overall Male & Female
4th Overall Male & Female
5th Overall Male & Female
10K
1st Overall Male & Female
2nd Overall Male & Female
3rd Overall Male & Female
4th Overall Male & Female
5th Overall Male & Female
6th Overall Male & Female
7th Overall Male & Female
8th Overall Male & Female
Please note that the Richard S. Caliguiri City of Pittsburgh Great Race has a non-duplication of awards policy. A runner who finishes in the Top 8 overall in the 10K run or Top 5 overall in the 5K run does not qualify to win an age group plaque. Therefore, your finish in your particular age group category may have improved due to other runners in your age group finishing in overall positions.
MASTERS AWARDS (Age 40+)

The Great Race awards the following Master's Awards in both the 5K and 10K. Only the First Overall Male & Female Masters awards are awarded at the post-race award ceremony on stage following the 10K:

1st Overall Male & Female Masters
2nd Overall Male & Female Masters
3rd Overall Male & Female Masters

Second and Third place Masters Awards will be mailed approximately two weeks post-race. In the event that a Masters qualifier (age 40+) finishes within the Top 5 of their gender in the 5K or Top 8 of their gender in the 10K, they are not eligible for a Masters Award and will be awarded for their finish in the Top 5 (5K) or Top 8 (10K) overall. The First Place Masters Winners will be the first Master’s qualifiers that finish following the Top 5 finishers in the 5K and Top 8 finishers in the 10K.

CALIGUIRI AWARDS

In honor of the late Mayor Richard S. Caliguiri, The Great Race awards the "Caliguiri Award" annually to the top male and female City of Pittsburgh residents to complete the 10K distance. These winners will be contacted post-race to receive their awards.

AGE GROUP AWARDS (Age 40+)

The Great Race also awards the Top 3 males & females in the following age groups. Age group awards are mailed to winners approximately two weeks post-race:

11 & Under
12 - 13
14 - 16
17 - 19
20 - 24
25 - 29
30 - 34
35 - 39
40 - 44
45 - 49
50 - 54
55 - 59
60 - 64
65 - 69
70 - 74
75 - 79
80 & Over

TEAM CHALLENGE AWARDS

The Great Race Team Competition has three categories: Corporate Cup Challenge, OpeTn eam Challenge, and Collegiate Team Challenge.


Corporate Team Challenge

The Corporate Team Challenge is broken down into four (4) subdivisions:

  • Business / Industry 1000+ Employees
  • Business / Industry 100 - 999 Employees
  • Business / Industry Below 99 Employees
  • Education / Government / Non-Profit

The team with the fastest combined time out of teams in all four (4) Corporate Cup divisions will win the Corporate Cup trophy. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams in each subdivision will also receive prizes that will be mailed to team members approximately two weeks post-race.


Open Team Challenge

The Open Team Challenge is broken down into five (5) subdivisions:

  • Men's Team
  • Women's Team
  • Men's Master Team
  • Women's Master Team
  • Co-ed Team

The team with the fastest combined time out of teams in all five (5) Open Team Challenge divisions will win the Open Team Challenge trophy. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams in each subdivision will also receive prizes that will be mailed to team members approximately two weeks post-race.


Collegiate Challenge

The Collegiate Challenge is broken down into four (4) subdivisions:

  • Fraternity
  • Sorority
  • Student Organization
  • Open Collegiate

The team with the fastest combined time out of team in all four (4) Collegiate Challenge divisions will win the Collegiate Cup trophy. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams in each subdivision will also receive prizes that will be mailed to team members approximately two weeks post-race.

WEIGHT CLASS AWARDS

The Great Race awards Weight Class awards to the top three qualifying males and females in the 10K only. To qualify, participants must weigh in at the Runner Services counter at the Great Race Expo when picking up their runner numbers. To qualify, males must weigh in at 200lbs or more and females must weigh 140lbs or more. Males will be awarded the "Clydesdale Award" and females will be awarded the "Lady Athena Award". These awards will be mailed approximately two weeks post race.

CHALLENGED DIVISION AWARDS

The Great Race awards the top male and top female finisher of both the 5K and 10K in our Challenged Division. The Challenged Division consists of the following categories: Hand-Crank and Push-Rim. These awards will be presented to the winners at the post-race award ceremony on the Award Stage following the 10K. The Challenged Division is limited to five (5) participants at both the 5K and 10K start lines.
