PITTSBURGH – More than 9,400 runners and walkers took on the challenge of the 48th Richard S. Caliguiri City of Pittsburgh Great Race presented by Highmark  Blue Cross Blue Shield. As Pennsylvania’s largest 10K, this iconic event attracted participants from 38 states and Washington, D.C., reaffirming its status as one of the region’s most celebrated fall traditions.

“The Great Race is more than a race — it’s a Pittsburgh tradition,” said Brian Katze, Race Director of the Richard S. Caliguiri City of Pittsburgh Great Race. “Every year we’re inspired by the energy of the runners, walkers, volunteers and spectators who come together to celebrate health, fitness and our incredible city.”

In the 10K race, Timothy Purcell, of Pittsburgh, claimed first place with a time of 30:28, while Madison Trippett of Morgantown, W. Va. earned top honors in the women’s division with a time of 33:09.
In the 5K race, Noah Bernarding of Cochranton, Pa. secured first place with a time of 14:34, and Maddie Salak of Oakdale, Pa. captured the women’s title with a time of 16:24.

This year also saw a record 417 participants complete the One Great Challenge—finishing both the 5K and 10K races to earn an additional medal. Sixteen men known as the “Perfect Great Racers” proudly crossed the 10K finish line for the 48th consecutive year, showcasing their enduring commitment to this storied event.

Beyond the excitement of race day, the Great Race also raises awareness for a vital cause. For every registration to the Great Race and Dollar Bank Junior Great Race, $1 is donated to the Richard S. Caliguiri Amyloidosis Fund, which supports critical medical research on amyloidosis—a rare protein disorder. The fund, held by The Pittsburgh Foundation, continues the legacy of Mayor Caliguiri, who passed away from the disease.
