PITTSBURGH, PA – The Dollar Bank Junior Great Race will celebrate its 30th anniversary on Saturday, September 27, inviting kids and families to be part of One Great Weekend. For three decades, this beloved Pittsburgh tradition has inspired thousands of young runners and their families to move together, play together, and make lifelong memories.
"The Dollar Bank Junior Great Race is a testament to the strong spirit of Pittsburgh families," stated Jim McQuade, Dollar Bank President and CEO. "We're celebrating 30 years of inspiring young runners and creating unforgettable memories. It's a privilege to share this special day with multiple generations. We can’t wait to see all the new faces joining us this year and celebrate with you at the finish line!"
With construction underway at Point State Park, this year’s race will feature a one-mile course starting on Penn Avenue at Gateway Center, looping out and back on Fort Duquesne Boulevard before returning to the finish at Gateway Center. Participants will have the option to receive an official time, making it a fun way for kids to track their progress and celebrate their achievements.
“For 30 years, the Dollar Bank Junior Great Race has been a celebration of movement and community,” said Brian Katze, Race Director. “We love seeing generations of Pittsburgh families come together to run, cheer, and make memories at the Dollar Bank Junior Great Race.”
The Dollar Bank Junior Great Race includes three family-friendly events:
● Family Fun Run – Designed for youth ages 5–12, with parents or guardians strongly encouraged to join in. Each child’s registration includes a complimentary bib for one accompanying adult.
● Tot Trot – Perfect for children ages 4 and under who can run or walk, or kids a little older who prefer a shorter distance. Participants will race down a 50-yard walled chute to their very own finish line as an announcer cheers them on.
● Diaper Dash – For little ones not yet steady on their feet, this event lets them crawl or toddle across protective mats in a safe and fun dash to the finish.
All participants will receive a commemorative T-shirt and medal, and every child will be celebrated for finishing strong.
